Product Review: Clearly Fresh Bags ~ Produce Storage Bags

Today I would like to introduce all of you to a product called Clearly Fresh Bags which are storage bags that are specifically made for you to store your fresh produce in. These these bags claim to help extend the life of the fresh produce that you store in them so I was sent a package of the Clearly Fresh Bags in the 1 gallon size to try out for all of you.

How They Work: The bags have the patented Breatheway membrane and there is a hole behind the logo on the bag which acts as a passage way to let oxygen in and carbon dioxide out. This allows for an ideal environment for your fresh produce to be in and slows the ripening and spoilage process. It doesn't prevent it...but it slows it down.

How To Use: You put your fresh dry produce into the bag, purge out the air and then seal (they have a zipper closure). Then depending on what type of item you have inside the bag you will either store your item on the countertop or in the refrigerator. You can read more about how they work on their web site.

My Review: I was sent a package of the Clearly Fresh Bags in the one gallon size to try out for all of you. I decided to try storing 3 bananas in one bag, 3 tomatoes in another bag and 3/4 of a head of iceberg lettuce in another bag. I purged the air out and zipped them close. I left the bananas out on the counter and placed the tomatoes and lettuce into the refrigerator as recommended. Two days later I went to get a banana and I was a little disappointed because one was completely mushy but the other two were perfectly fine. I took the mushy one out and threw it away, took the #2 one out to eat and sealed the bag back up with banana #3 still in it. On the third day, my hubby ate the banana so my bananas were only in there for 3 days. In the second bag I had my iceberg lettuce and I must say...I am impressed with how the bag worked with the lettuce. All week long we would get in and get some lettuce for either our sandwiches or salads and each time the lettuce was still crisp and fresh. That to me was surprising because usually within 3-4 days I start seeing brown spots and wilting...so in regards to the lettuce, I give them a huge 2 thumbs up! In the third bag I had 3 tomatoes and all 3 of them were very ripe when I put them in there. Through out the week we got in to get tomatoes for our sandwiches and salads and I was surprised that my very ripe tomatoes were still fresh and usable on day 3 and 4 of being stored in the Clearly Fresh Bags. So, I would give the bags a big 2 thumbs up with the tomatoes too.

Overall Impression: I think the bags worked fantastic for my iceberg lettuce and my tomatoes but I was disappointed with my banana experiment. With that said, I would purchase this product and I do plan on purchasing this product to help extend the life of my fresh produce. Overall, I would give this product 8 out of 10 stars.

I would like to thank the folks over at Clearly Fresh Bags for sending me a package of your bags to try out for my product review.
