Delicious Red Candy Apples Recipe | Easy to Make!

During the fall season we enjoy going out to our local apple orchard and picking some apples. Once we return I like to make some homemade candy coated apples for my family and this is the recipe I like to use. I got the recipe from my great aunt about 25-30 years ago and to this day...it is the recipe I use!

Homemade Candy Apples Recipe

6 large red apples
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3/4 cup water
red food coloring

Wash and dry your apples. You want to use ONLY apples that have no blemishes. Insert wooden sticks into the stem end on each apple. In a large saucepan combine together the granulated sugar, corn syrup and water. Cook mixture slowly over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved. Add several drops of food coloring to the mixture so that it turns a bright red. Continue to cook mixture slowly until it reaches 300 degrees F (use a candy thermometer). Once it has reached temperature remove the pan from the heat. Dip and twirl apples in the candy mixture and then place them on wax paper or a silicone lined baking mat to harden. Once hard store them in an airtight container or wrap in plastic wrap.
