How To Make Homemade Caramel Candies plus Recipe

If you love caramel candies like my husband does then you should try making them from scratch at home as they are just as good (if not better) than store bought caramels. To make them you will need to invest in a candy making thermometer which helps to ensure your caramel making success. This recipe will make 1 1/4 lbs. of caramels.

Homemade Caramels Recipe

2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup milk
1 cup butter
4 teaspoons vanilla extract

In a large saucepan combined together the sugars, corn syrup, heavy cream, milk and butter. Slowly cook mixture over medium heat until it reaches 248 degrees F on a candy thermometer. You will want to stir it constantly with a nonstick silicone spatula so it doesn't scorch during the cooking process.

Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla extract. Pour the mixture into a well greased 8" by 8" baking dish. When it firms up you will want to turn it out onto a cutting board and cut your caramels into bite-sized squares. Store them in an airtight container and/or individually wrap them in plastic wrap.
