Backyard Farming with Your Own Egg-Laying Chickens

My brother got laid off from work last year and since that time has been thinking about putting a small farm in his backyard and this year he is starting the process for it. He has 2 young teenaged boys so they can help him with the farm and I think it will teach the boys good lessons in "hard work".

One of the things he is looking into is backyard chickens as he read online that they are easy to raise and they would save money at the grocery store because he wants egg-laying chickens. I think that would be totally cool!

He was telling me over the weekend that he found chicks for sale online and that they are super affordable, much more so than if he bought them locally. He also told me that they safely ship them to either your front door or to your local pickup center like the USPS. Wow, I never knew they could ship live chickens like that!

He apparently found a live hatchery online that he feels comfortable with so he will be placing an order for about a dozen chicks in a few weeks once it is warmer outside here in Pennsylvania. I can't wait to see them once they arrive!

I am really excited about this new venture in my brother's life as he has always wanted a little farm to call his own and now he has begun the plans to have one. I am looking forward to the day when my brother sends me down some freshly gathered eggs as I will be cooking us up a nice delicious omelet! yeah!
