Important Information about Monosodium Glutamate

Over the past year or so I have heard many rumors and misinformation being released out into the marketplace regarding the food additive called Monosodium Glutamate, better known as MSG.

I decided to read up on the subject matter myself to see what I could find out about it and here is some of what I learned.

* It has safely been used as a food ingredient (additive) since the early 1900's and it's safety has been thoroughly tested by hundreds of national and worldwide organizations like the (FAO) Food Agricultural Organization and the (WHO) World Health Organization to name just a few.

* MSG's safety has been repeatedly affirmed by numerous regulators and scientific agencies from around the world...including by agencies here in the United States.

* In 1995 the (FASEB) Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology reaffirmed the safety of MSG for use in food...for the general population. This is very important to note for those of you who are cautious about the use of Monosodium Glutamate in your food products. With that said, there are people out there who are allergic to MSG and those types of people should avoid it...just like people who are allergic to nuts should avoid all peanut type of products.

Overall, I feel from what I have personally read and from what has been published by nationally recognized agencies that MSG is safe if it is consumed in normal amounts. Just like any food substance or additive, it is important to use things or consume things in moderation.

Before you make up your mind on the MSG debate it is important for you...yourself to get out there and do your own research so that you are an informed consumer.
