Cherry and Olive Pitter by OXO :: Review

My husband is a big homemade pie eater and when it comes to pies, the classic cherry pie is his ultimate favorite! With that said, I rarely use canned pie filling and almost always use fresh fruits. Pitting cherries by hand can be a real pain in the butt and you squish your cherries in the process.

Today I get to talk to you about the new Cherry and Olive Pitter by the great folks over at the OXO company which is from their Good Grips line of kitchen tools. This cherry and olive pitter is the easiest and most comfortable cherry pitter tool that I have ever used!

Product Features (from their site): The Pitter features a removable splatter shield that directs juices downward and prevents them from soiling your work area. When not in use, the splatter shield fits inside the front chamber and a lock holds the Pitter closed for convenient storage. Sturdy, die-cast zinc construction removes pits with ease, and soft, comfortable non-slip handles absorb pressure while you squeeze. The holder is extra large to accommodate Bing cherries and has a recessed cup to securely hold smaller varieties when pitting. When placing it in the dishwasher, leave it in the unlocked position.

Over the weekend I wanted to bake a cherry pie for my husband and he also wanted some fresh cherries to snack on. We decided to try out our new cherry pitter and let me tell you, we were super pleased at how easy this cherry pitter was to use! The pitter tool fits really comfortably in your hand. I have small hands and he has large hands and both of us were easily able to use this tool. When pitting your cherries wash them first and let them sit in a colander so the water drains away. I got 2 bowls ready...one to catch the pits (seeds) and one to catch my cherries. We inserted one cherry at a time into the tool and gently squeezed and the pits came right out and fell in the bowl below. How cool is that? Totally cool!

It took us less than 10 minutes to pit 2 1/2 quarts of fresh cherries. Our hands didn't get cramped up at all and the cherry pitter worked beautifully. Once done I placed it into the dishwasher and it came out sparkly clean. We could not be happier with our new cherry pitter from OXO. In our book, it's a must have for pitting your fresh cherries and olives!

You can purchase the OXO Cherry and Olive Pitter from their online store for only $12.99 and trust me, it is worth every dime! While you are over there, check out all of their wonderful kitchen gadgets and tools!
