Pennsylvania Dutch Applesauce Cake Recipe

I have lived in Pennsylvania for most of my life and most of that time has been spent around Lancaster Amish Country. About 15 years ago a neighbor of mine who happened to be Amish, gave me this recipe which I am sharing with all of you today.

Pennsylvania Dutch Applesauce Cake Recipe

1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 stick butter, softened
2 large eggs
2 cups applesauce
1 cup raisins
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
3 cups all-purpose flour, lightly sifted

In a large mixing bowl, combine together all of the ingredients listed above, in the order they are given in the recipe. Lightly grease two loaf pans and pour the cake batter evenly into each pan.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees and bake for 50 to 65 minutes or until the center of each loaf is done. Remove from oven and let cool.
