Banana Smoothies - Great Source of Potassium and Calcium

Last week I had extensive oral surgery done which means for the next 7 to 10 days, I am on a strict liquid and soft foods diet. While on this special diet to allow my mouth to heal, I have to maintain caloric intake and make sure I am getting enough vitamins and minerals to keep my body healthy.

While talking to my doctor about all of this, she recommended that I consume a lot of homemade healthy fruit juices and fruit smoothies. While I know how to make the basic ones, I needed a few more ideas and hopped online and found a great banana cocktail recipe that suits my needs. Matter of fact, it's super quick and easy to make, and is a great source of potassium and calcium. You can find the recipe along with step-by-step directions over at wikitalks.

In addition to making that delicious banana cocktail everyday, I have been blending up some peach & mango smoothies, strawberry & kiwi smoothies and last night I made a wonderful homemade strawberry & watermelon smoothie.

While I love consuming fruit smoothies several times a day, I am looking forward to incorporating regular foods back into my diet next week. Once I am back on regular foods, I am going to continue to enjoy one fruit smoothie a day, probably at breakfast or maybe as an afternoon snack.

Do any of my foodie blog readers enjoy homemade fruit juices and fruit smoothies? If so, what kind do you like? I would love to hear all about it!
