How to Make Homemade Granola with Recipe

Over the years I have become a very frugal housewife and in the process, I grew to love cooking, baking and canning my family's foods. About 8 years ago my mother-in-law taught me how to make homemade granola and today, I thought I would share her recipe with all of you.

This recipe is very easy-to-make and in less than 45 minutes, you will have some delicious tasting homemade granola which is a very healthy snack!

Homemade Granola Recipe

3 cups rolled oats (oatmeal)
1 1/2 cups wheat germ
1 cup peanuts, chopped
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 to 3/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup dates, chopped
1/4 cup dried apricots
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 to 1/2 cup honey

Lay the 3 cups of rolled oats out on a baking sheet in a single layer. Place baking sheet in a preheated 300 degree F oven and roast them for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove baking sheet from oven.

In a large mixing bowl combine together the wheat germ, peanuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, dates and dried apricots until blended together.

In a small saucepan combine together the vegetable oil and the honey over low-medium heat and heat for 3-4 minutes (just until it's hot), remove from heat.

Pour the roasted rolled oats into the large mixing bowl along with the honey mixture so that everything is well combined together. I find it best to use a wooden spoon or silicone spatula for stirring. Spread the mixture onto the baking sheet in a thin layer. Place baking sheet into the preheated 300 degree oven and bake for 15 to 17 minutes, using a spatula to flip the mixture over (stir it up) every 5 to 7 minutes during the baking process.

Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheet. Once cool, pour mixture into an airtight container or plastic storage bags.
