Easy to Make Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe

I am very picky when it comes to making homemade pizzas and when I make a homemade pizza for my family, I always use a homemade dough recipe. For me...I just don't care for prepackaged or frozen pizza dough. A few years ago I got this recipe from one of my neighbors and ever since receiving it...I've been using it to make my dough.

This recipe will make three round pizza dough or two rectangular pizza dough. You can freeze the dough for later use if you wrap it in plastic wrap or place it into a freezer bag. I don't keep my dough frozen for more than 60 days.

Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe

1/4 cup warm water
2 pkg. dry yeast (the kind that come in an envelope)
1 tbsp. granulated sugar
6 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. granulated sugar
2 tbsp. vegetable shortening
2 cups water

In a large mixing bowl combine together the warm water, dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar. Cover and let stand at room temperature for 5 minutes.

Cut vegetable shortening into the all-purpose flour using another large mixing bowl. Then add the salt and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Make sure it gets combined well. Add the first bowl contents to the flour bowl contents along with 2 cups of water. Use your hands and knead the dough for 3 to 4 minutes. Cover bowl and let it rise until it has doubled in size. (Takes 20 to 40 minutes). Once done...it is ready for you to use when you make pizza.
