How to Prepare for an Outdoor Kitchen

How to Prepare for an Outdoor Kitchen
The wonderful part of living in Miami is the ability to entertain outdoors on nearly any day of the year. Creating an outdoor kitchen can be a fun way to highlight your outdoor cooking skills to friends and family that decide to drop by. Having similar amenities to indoor cooking appliances will ensure the best results each time.

Choose the Perfect Location

You need to make some decisions are where you would like to set up your outdoor kitchen. This will end up being the hub of your outdoor entertaining. Try and strategically place it near the closest access to the indoor kitchen. You will also want to have enough for outdoor seating to enjoy the meals that are cooked.

Choose the Appliances You Want Outdoors

Some individuals are perfectly satisfied to install an outdoor grill, whereas others want a refrigerator, ice-maker, dishwasher, oven, and sink. Each appliance will require a different level of installation work and preparation. You need to make sure you have enough room in the yard to have a full outdoor kitchen set up.

Begin with a Sturdy Foundation

A solid and flat surface is required in order to install an outdoor kitchen correctly. This can be a stone patio, wood deck, or any other number of solid, flat surfaces. You should always plan to have an adequate overhead covering to protect the appliances from inclement weather.

Hire an Electrician and Plumber for Utilities

Adding electrical wiring and outlets should only be done by a licensed and experienced electrician. Any plumbing lines for drains, sinks and ice makers should be installed by a professional plumber. You want the appliances to last for many years and to ensure your warranty is still good. This can only be done by having the installation done professionally.

Consider Winterization and Maintenance Costs

Miami offers beautiful weather most of the year, but there are times that the temperatures can plummet. You need to consider what steps need to be taken and the cost of winterizing the outdoor kitchen area. There will also be ongoing maintenance concerns for your appliances. make sure you have a great source for fast and accurate repair.

Since I live in the Northeastern section of the US I don't need to worry about a sturdy foundation. I just have the grill to place outdoors. I shall pass on these tips to my son.
